Unemployment is killing me

I started life earlier than most people. Out of necessity I entered the work force early as well. From the age of fifteen and until I became of legal age the jobs available to a ninth grade drop out were few. Work choices consisted of motel maid or waitress work. As soon as I turned eighteen(the legal age at that time) I started working as a cashier for convenience stores a job I excelled at moving up the ladder to store manager. I was content with my chosen profession for years. In 1986 I finally took a GED test on a whim and passed. This rekindled my long dormant love of academia so I began taking random classes. I completed a real estate course and got my license. I took a substitute teaching course and worked for the local school district for a year. During that year I started taking classes in early childhood education and began working in the preschool system. All of this is to say I have a wide array of skills that I should be able to rely on to secure a job. And yet here I sit unemployed and apparently unemployable.

Just to clarify I apply for jobs any job in any field where I have some experience. I apply online and in person and sometimes I get an interview though not often. I tell myself that there are so many people with more education. So I have enrolled in college to correct the problem and believe it or not that prompts questions like can you work and go to college. I honestly thought it would be a plus, but sadly that is not the case. Now I am at the point of wondering if I will ever have a job again.

Is it my age I am 50 after all? Are my past employers secretly tell tales on me? I mean I still communicate with the management of the most recent jobs and I can not imagine they give bad reviews. Am I just being paranoid or is the market really that bad? I do not have the answers if I did I would have a job. What I do know is that not having one is stressing me to the point of illness. I feel physically sick every time I search, apply, or interview for a job. The dread of rejection is sickening.

2012 Presidential Race

Well, it has officially started. The running of the 2012 candidates for president. The network news programs both local and national are now making the transition from the usual refuse with the occasional relevant news to all politics all the time. The viewing of which is futile at best and headache inducing at it's worst.

Consider the poll findings for instance. To whom are they directing these questions anyway? Are they some special group sequestered in a sound proof room somewhere? That or some similar scenario is the only excuse for the some of the results they throw out every day to try and convince everyone else that they should follow along.

All I can say about the GOP candidates so far is;one I am glad I am a Democrat and two OMG are you guys for real? cause I would not vote for these characters on American Idol.

I just wanted to get that out there If anyone is interested in watching a humorous reality show the 2012 running for president should be a good one.

Rants and Rages: The Lives We Lead

Rants and Rages: The Lives We Lead: "Sometimes it is a good idea to take a step back and really look at our lives. People get so caught up in the every day hassles. Our jobs, if..."

The Lives We Lead

Sometimes it is a good idea to take a step back and really look at our lives. People get so caught up in the every day hassles. Our jobs, if we are lucky enough to have one. The kids, if they are part of the equation. Our partners, traffic, shopping, pet care, and bills, all the ordinary parts of life. It can become pretty daunting and it can wear you down. The routine of living a normal life can weigh you down. When it happens and it will unless you have super human powers just stop. Take a deep breathe, step back, and look at life. There may be questions that need answers. Are you having fun any more? If not, why not? This is the life you chose, the ideal hopefully of how you wanted it to be. If it is not, then what can you do to make life conform? There are ways to do it, each person can make life what they need it to be. The key to getting there is to want it bad enough to work at it and work at it until you get it just right. Sounds easy enough, problem is you have to keep living while your working on the perfect existence. All the routine stuff still has to be done every day. It is not easy, nothing in life ever is. I am still working on my perfect life and it is half over. But I will not give up or give in. I enrolled in college for the first time at 49 years old. I have made it almost to the top and had the displeasure of being knocked to the bottom again, twice. Trick is do not lay there crying, get up, dust off and start climbing again. I mean what are the options, going along to get along, cowering in the corner, death? None of those are options I can be happy with.

Ethical Behavior for All

Media has been the focus of the Humanities class I have been taking for the last eight weeks. A great deal of the discussion has centered on the Internet. Last week the we covered news media. This weeks discussions were on ethics. Everyone should be aware that more often the news comes to us with a generous helping of bias and opinion. This type of reporting is reserved for the more controversial subjects. Politics, war, policy, taxes, and environmental issues are rarely just the facts reporting. The Internet is a good place to find bias and opinion. So the question arises is the plain truth out there?

People from all walks of life from professional to obsessional have a blog. Every site on the web has a place for comments. People read these posts and many take them at face value. Meaning they never question the knowledge of the writer or their ethics. These are both important considerations, because their are people who are stealing the work of others. They post entire articles as their own without acknowledging the actual writer even once. As a student we learn that these practices are not just unethical but they are illegal. Copyrights are implied the minute the work is posted and no one has the right to use it without giving proper credit to the writer. Even then the use of the article in totality is wrong unless it is done through a direct link to the article or with the writer's permission. It is stealing folks and stealing is wrong. Think about it.

Just another sunny Sunday

It has been a great day with family. My brother-in-law came down with his grandsons, Jesse and Jeremiah. We all gathered at my daughter's home for Sunday dinner. Billy (my brother-in-law) left the boys to visit until Tuesday. My daughter will take them home after they have a visit with their mom. If this sounds a bit confusing, it is. My daughter is currently caring for my nieces three year old girl and Billy has custody of his grandsons, her brothers. My niece seems to be the third generation of mothers who do not raise their children. My mother did not raise my siblings and I. My sister never really raised her children, she left that to their fathers. Now my niece has three and again other people are responsible for their care. My daughter has been troubled by the pattern and has questioned me about past generations and problems they may have had with absentee mothers. The problem is no one is around to ask except my mother and we do not speak. I plan to do some family research and will post any information I uncover in future writings. That does it for now, until next time, Love your children and tell them you do every day!
